Caoimhin Kelleher Makes Permanent Move To Brentford

Caoimhin Kelleher has today completed a permanent transfer to Brentford.

The Republic of Ireland goalkeeper finalised his move to the Premier League club, bringing his 10-year Liverpool career to an end.

The 26-year-old joined the Academy from Ringmahon Rangers in his home city of Cork in the summer of 2015 and went on to make 67 senior appearances for the Reds, winning seven trophies.

Kelleher departs Anfield having lifted two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Emirates FA Cup, two Carabao Cups and the UEFA Super Cup.

He is a record-holder, too, having won four penalty shootouts as a Liverpool player – the most of any ’keeper in the club’s history.

The most memorable of those successes came in the 2022 Carabao Cup final when, after delivering a superb performance throughout the 120 minutes, the stopper scored the decisive spot-kick as the Reds beat Chelsea at Wembley.

Kelleher progressed from the Academy ranks to become an excellent deputy for Alisson Becker. In the most recent 2024-25 season, he played 20 times as Arne Slot’s side were crowned Premier League champions and reached the final of the Carabao Cup.

That included a run of 10 consecutive starts in league and Champions League fixtures that began with a 2-1 home victory over Chelsea in October.

Liverpool won eight and drew the other two of those games and Kelleher kept five clean sheets. He also became the first Reds ’keeper for more than a century to save penalties in consecutive matches, during the successes over Southampton and Real Madrid respectively.

Everyone at Liverpool FC thanks Caoimhin for his contribution to the club’s recent success and wishes him the best of luck for the future.

Round-up, Internationals: Konate, Trent, Endo, & Kelleher in action

Liverpool's Ibrahima Konate, Wataru Endo and Caoimhin Kelleher enjoyed victories with their national teams on Thursday night.

Konate was a starter for France and played all of their 4-1 UEFA Nations League win against Israel in Budapest, while Kelleher was in goal for the Republic of Ireland's come-from-behind success away at Finland.

Endo, meanwhile, captained Japan to a 2-0 win versus Saudi Arabia in a World Cup qualifier.

Elsewhere, Trent Alexander-Arnold was involved in the entirety of England's 2-1 defeat by Greece at Wembley, where Curtis Jones was an unused substitute for the hosts.

Kaide Gordon, currently on loan at Norwich City, was introduced in the second half of the 2-1 win for England's Elite League Squad away at Italy.

Two Academy players were in action on Wednesday evening.

Kyle Kelly came off the bench as St. Kitts and Nevis won 3-1 against the British Virgin Islands, while Amara Nallo started for England U19s in their 2-1 loss to Portugal.

Contract situations of trio not a distraction

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has dismissed suggestions the contract situations of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah could be a distraction.

Right-back Alexander-Arnold, centre-back Van Dijk and forward Salah are all in the final 12 months of their deals.

Salah, speaking after the win at Manchester United prior to the international break, said "nobody in the club talked to me yet about contracts".

But Slot said: "It's again the boring answer you are going to get from me as long as there is no news. We don't talk about contract situations here.

"Is it a distraction? No, it isn't because I'm fully focused on the individuals and the team.

"They are part of the team and I'm trying to work with them in the best possible way to get the best out of them. It's not a distraction for me at all."

Liverpool have won their opening three league games under Slot - who succeeded Jurgen Klopp in the summer - and host Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

They will be without attacking midfielder Harvey Elliott, who fractured his foot while on England Under-21 duty.

"Harvey's injury is, of course, a big disappointment for him but also for us," said the Dutchman.

"He didn't play that much in the first three games but he showed himself really well in pre-season. It's a blow for the both of us.

"If he had stayed fit, he would have had a lot of playing time in the upcoming fixtures but now he isn't and that gives a chance to someone else," added Slot, who said new signing Federico Chiesa has trained "three or four times" with the first team and is contention to be involved against Forest.

During the international break, Reds goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher said he wants to leave Liverpool to "be a number one" as the club looks as if they have chosen to go "in a different direction" by agreeing a deal to sign Valencia keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili next summer.

"I would be really worried if a player came out and said 'I don't care about playing first-team football'," said Slot. "That would be a bigger worry for me.

"It's normal they want to play but it's also normal that a club like this that tries to compete for trophies has more than 11 players who can play.

"He's shown many times in the past few years, and even in pre-season, that he's ready whenever we need him.

"It's a good thing he wants to play. Who knows if he'll play for us in the future. At this moment, it's quite clear that Alisson is the number one but last season he played many games.

"So, it's a normal situation for a player to be in if you're not playing - that you want to play - but he handles that situation really well."

Gakpo on target as seven Reds feature for their countries

Cody Gakpo scored for the Netherlands on Saturday night as seven Liverpool players were involved in UEFA Nations League action for their countries.

The Dutch earned a 5-2 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in Eindhoven, with Gakpo, Ryan Gravenberch and Virgil van Dijk all starting.

Gakpo netted from close range to finish off a slick team move to make it 3-1 on the night, before the attacker departed shortly after the hour mark, with his Reds teammates finishing the full game.

The match saw captain Van Dijk bring up the milestone of 75 international caps, too.

Earlier in the day, Trent Alexander-Arnold completed the full 90 minutes at right-back for England, with the Three Lions defeating goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher’s Republic of Ireland 2-0 in Dublin.

Kostas Tsimikas featured for the full match and helped keep a clean sheet in Greece’s 3-0 win over Finland, while Dominik Szoboszlai captained Hungary, who were beaten 5-0 by Germany in Dusseldorf.
