Andoni Iraola was appointed as Liverpool FC head coach in the summer of 2026.

His arrival at Anfield followed three successful seasons in charge of AFC Bournemouth, where he combined style with substance.

While furthering his reputation as a coach who subscribes to a fearless and relentless brand of attacking football, Iraola led the Cherries to consecutive finishes of 12th, ninth and sixth in the Premier League.

His final campaign there culminated in the south-coast club qualifying for Europe for the first time in their history.

Iraola's journey in coaching began in November 2016, when he called time on a playing career during which he achieved legendary status at Athletic Club.

Born in Usurbil, a small town near San Sebastian in the Basque Country, in June 1982, Iraola progressed through Athletic's academy and would spend 12 seasons in the first team, totalling 510 appearances. He also won seven senior caps for Spain.

He captained Athletic for four campaigns, skippering them to the 2011-12 Europa League final, two Copa del Rey finals and Champions League qualification, and left in the summer of 2015 before enjoying the final year of his playing career with New York City FC.

After retiring from playing, Iraola embarked on a pathway in coaching that first led him to Cyprus in June 2018, where he guided AEK Larnaca to the Cypriot Super Cup title.

Iraola then returned to Spain and took second-division club Mirandes to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey in 2019-20, beating Celta Vigo, Sevilla and Villarreal before losing to eventual winners Real Sociedad.

In the summer of 2020, Iraola took over at Rayo Vallecano.

He led the Madrid club to promotion to La Liga at the first time of asking and their unflinching style of play in the top tier earned victories over Barcelona and Real Madrid, as well as plaudits and admiring glances from elsewhere in the game.

Three years later, the Premier League beckoned as Iraola was appointed head coach of Bournemouth.

And after a trio of impressive campaigns on the south coast, Iraola took the reins at Anfield, succeeding Arne Slot and becoming the Reds' 10th permanent head coach/manager of the Premier League era.
