Liverpool agree deal to sign Victor Munoz

Liverpool FC have agreed a deal to sign Victor Munoz from Osasuna, subject to a successful work permit application and international clearance.

The forward, who is currently on World Cup duty with Spain, completed a medical at the country’s base in Tennessee in the USA and has put pen to paper on a long-term contract.

Munoz is the first new addition since the arrival of head coach Andoni Iraola and will link up with his new teammates later this summer after his participation in the tournament with his national team has concluded.

The 22-year-old has two caps for Spain and marked his debut against Serbia in March with a goal.

The international recognition came after an outstanding season with Osasuna in which he made 34 appearances, scoring seven times and claiming five assists in all competitions.

Munoz moved to Los Rojillos last summer from Real Madrid, for whom he made four appearances after graduating from their youth set-up having previously been with the academy of his hometown club, FC Barcelona.

The attacker is set to be involved in Spain’s second World Cup group-stage game on Sunday when they take on Saudi Arabia in Atlanta.

Munoz is the second addition to the Reds’ playing squad ahead of 2026-27, after a deal was agreed for the acquisition of Jeremy Jacquet earlier this year.

Liverpool are set to sign winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna after triggering his 40m euro (£34.6m) release clause.

Munoz, 22, is part of Spain's World Cup squad - and it is understood that the reds have staff in the United States to conduct his medical.

Newcastle were in talks to sign Munoz, after they sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, but Liverpool have won the race.

Munoz will become Liverpool's first signing since Andoni Iraola replaced Arne Slot as head coach earlier this month.

When Newcastle were linked with his signing, La Liga experts told BBC Radio Newcastle: "He is an outstanding young talent. He's one of the pearls of Spanish football.

"He's a very strong, right-footed attacking winger. He can play both sides. He's very robust. Very physical. He challenges defenders.

"One question mark over his technical abilities is his passing as he only got two assists in the whole of last season. But he does take on defenders, and he provides all sorts of challenges for them pulling players in his direction and opening up space for the other forwards.

"He can play either side of the park and that makes him a valuable asset depending on the resources of the rest of the team.

"Also, he's always tracking back and he's a strong tackler so he's supporting the defenders as well. There's no question marks over his work rate."
