Premier League 25/26 Matchday 19 - Liverpool 0:0 Leeds United Match Report

Match Report

Liverpool played out a goalless stalemate with Leeds United in Thursday's Premier League clash at Anfield.

It was an encounter short on true scoring opportunities as the Reds began 2026 aiming for a fifth consecutive win.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a late effort ruled out for the visitors for offside and it remained 0-0.

Team

Dominik Szoboszlai returned from suspension and Conor Bradley and Andy Robertson were brought back in to the XI as Arne Slot made three changes.

First half

A couple of Leeds set-pieces passed by without incident in the earliest phases of football at Anfield in the New Year.

In response, Lucas Perri had to shovel out a low left-footer from Hugo Ekitike, who had combined with Curtis Jones and chopped inside Gabriel Gudmundsson.

Liverpool were thwarted, and aggrieved, on 14 minutes.

Ibrahima Konate's hoist over the top sprung Ekitike and he reached the area and nudged the ball across to Florian Wirtz, amid insisting he had been wrestled down by Jaka Bijol.

Wirtz's close-range finish was blocked at the last, too, with the recovering James Justin in the way.

Ethan Ampadu failed to capitalise upon an errant Alisson Becker pass out of his box, the Leeds captain's strike back towards a partly exposed net gratefully scooped in by the goalkeeper.

Ekitike then misjudged a header from a rasped Jeremie Frimpong delivery into the middle.

But the half-time whistle arrived with neither team having produced a major threat on the opposition's clean sheet.

Second half

Bradley saw several attempts deflected onto the Kop as the Reds tried to turn the screw after the restart.

A Szoboszlai drive from distance was padded away by Perri before Slot opted for a triple substitution.

On came Cody Gakpo, Milos Kerkez and Alexis Mac Allister from the Liverpool bench.

Virgil van Dijk was only a fraction wide with a downward header past the post after being found by Szoboszlai's corner kick.

An Ekitike thrash from 20 yards was too high, ahead of Leeds seeing a strike disallowed.

Substitute Calvert-Lewin clipped the ball in but did so having been offside at the point Sebastian Bornauw touched a cross into his path yards out.

And no breakthrough materialised, with the Reds' unbeaten streak extending to eight matches, though with two fewer points on the day than they wished.

Premier League 25/26 Matchday 15 - Leeds United 3:3 Liverpool Match Report

Match Report

Liverpool played out a 3-3 draw with Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday evening at Elland Road.

The Reds had taken a two-goal advantage early in the second half thanks to a swift double strike from forward Hugo Ekitike.

Leeds, however, found a way back into the contest via a Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty and goal from Anton Stach.

Szoboszlai, though, put the Reds back ahead in the 80th minute, before a leveller in added time for the hosts by substitute Ao Tanaka saw the points shared.

Team

Liverpool made four changes to their line-up for the trip to West Yorkshire with Conor Bradley returning from injury.

Milos Kerkez, Curtis Jones and Ekitike were also restored to the starting XI by Arne Slot.

First half

The game started at pace with Leeds working Noah Okafor and Gabriel Gudmundsson into efforts that both flew wide of the mark.

Kerkez also tried his luck from distance in response for the Reds, however the full-back's opportunity suffered the same fate as those before.

After 15 minutes Liverpool enjoyed their best spell of the game, a Curtis Jones strike smashing the crossbar from the edge of the box, with the midfielder opening up the chance well for himself as he cut onto his right foot.

Ekitike's driven shot, meanwhile, deflected over with Liverpool dominating much of the possession and openings.

Szoboszlai then attempted to dip a free kick over the Leeds wall and into the back of net, though his chance also flew inches over the bar.

The midfielder turned provider at a dead ball a short while later, swinging in a delivery for the head of Virgil van Dijk, but the captain's opening was just off target.

Ahead of the interval, Pascal Struijk prodded a chance wide following a corner ball, while Cody Gakpo broke quickly to have his shot deflected away, with the score remaining level at the break.

Second half

Liverpool began in swift fashion after the change of ends and took control of the game with two quick goals.

Ekitike struck twice in a little over two minutes to give the Reds a cushion by minute 50 of the contest.

The striker first picked up a loose pass from Joe Rodon in the Leeds defence and advanced forward to strike low into the bottom corner of the net.

On Liverpool's next attack he again added to the scoreline, having seen an initial penalty claim waved away by referee Anthony Taylor after a sliding challenge in the box.

The Reds recycled the ball quickly out wide as Bradley delivered a dipping cross for the forward to greet with a volley ahead of diving goalkeeper Lucas Perri.

The Whites stopper also had to be alert shortly after the hour to halt a curling Gakpo shot during a fast break for Liverpool.

Leeds, however, pulled themselves back into the game with two goals in two minutes themselves after earning a penalty kick.

Ibrahima Konate was adjudged to have taken down substitute Willy Gnonto after VAR intervention in the 73rd minute, with Calvert-Lewin scoring from the spot.

Stach then levelled the contest with a driven effort from inside the area after working space from the left to net past Alisson.

The match opened up with both teams exchanging attacks in their attempts to find a winner.

Perri pushed a Van Dijk header wide from a set-piece with a strong save to his right, before the Reds found their way back in front with 10 minutes remaining.

A clever move saw a pass from Ryan Gravenberch open up space for Szoboszlai, who had advanced deep into the final third.

The midfielder gathered and made no mistake by sliding a shot into the far corner to restore Liverpool's lead.

Substitute Tanaka, though, had the final say of the night in the sixth minute of added time at the end of the contest, striking into the net at a corner ball to see the game end level.
