Record Win: Liverpool 11-0 Strømsgodset

September 17, 1974
Key note: “An adding machine was essential equipment at Anfield last night as Liverpool shattered the club’s scoring record, stretching back to the days they joined the League in 1892.

An 11-0 massacre of the hopeless and hapless Norwegian part-timers from Strømsgodset in the European Cup Winners’ Cup tie beat the ten they had put past the Irish team Dundalk five years ago in the Fairs Cup. It wasn’t a match, of course.

It was a scoring romp as the Norwegians were run off their feet, without a clue – apart from an offside trap – on how to stem the scoring flood. Strømsgodset did their best, but it was nowhere good enough to give them a glimpse of a chance.

They were clean and sporting, and for that they will be remembered, but they did not have a player who threatened Liverpool’s overwhelming control. The word outclassed was an understatement.” (Liverpool Echo: September 18, 1974)
