Adam Lewis to play in League Two after Liverpool exit

Adam Lewis is staying in League Two after leaving Liverpool.

The left-back has signed a one-year deal for Morecambe and was one of 15 players announced in one fell swoop by Derek Adams’ side.

The Shrimps were placed under a registration embargo in March because of an unpaid VAT bill but that has been lifted.

Lewis, 24, was released by the Reds this summer after spending the last two campaigns on loan with the Exiles.

He made 28 appearances in 2022/23 and featured 30 times last season, with his time in Newport ended when he was sent off against Accrington with two games left to play.

The defender, whose time at Rodney Parade was hindered by injury, had expressed interest in signing a permanent deal with County and former boss Graham Coughlan was keen, but instead he will play for the Shrimps.

Lewis will go up against the Exiles in Morecambe on August 31 and then return to Rodney Parade on January 4.
